Lent is a time of reflection, self-denial, and preparation. The word itself has origins in "lengthen" and it falls in the calendar as the days are lengthening.
Hopefully our thoughts about our faith are lengthening too. Especially in these challenging days that we're all facing.
My husband and I are no different from anyone else. We're looking at our expenses and trying to figure out where we can save more money. What we're willing to give up. Where we've been careless about money or things.
Last night we talked about how much more we've talked about really important subjects lately. This has driven us closer.
In my business I've thought more about being more effective, providing better service, developing closer relationships with existing clients and trying harder to attract the ideal client for me.
I know people are thinking a lot about their jobs...how they can perform better...what they can do to keep their job.
Being nice and easy to deal with certainly helps.
Businesses...good ones anyway...want to keep people who produce but also those who are easy to work with. What more could you do to be easy to work with? Does it mean being a doormat? No. But it means not being so quick to let your emotions or stress get the best of you.
And how can you prepare for the future? What can you do to learn about the latest developments in your profession or even learn a new one?
God gave us our talents to be used and to grow them. It's part of being a good steward.
So during Lent, don't forget that faith fits the office too and ask yourself how you can connect the reflection and renewal process of Lent with your professional life.
As people of faith, we're called to be Christians 24-hours a day. And that includes from 9 to 5.
